He obtained a bachelor's degree in internal combustion engine from Tianjin University in 1984, a master's degree in environmental engineering from Jilin University of Technology in 1989, a doctorate in internal combustion engine from Tianjin University in 1992, and a post-doctoral degree in automotive design and manufacturing from Jilin University of Technology in 1995. From 2000 to 2001, he was a visiting research scholar at the University of Michigan. Springer Professor Chair, University of California, Berkeley, 2008-2009. From October 1992 to January 2002, he served as a lecturer, associate professor, professor and doctoral supervisor of the internal combustion engine of Jilin University of Technology and Jilin University, and concurrently served as deputy director of the car model development center, deputy director of the internal combustion engine engineering department, and automobile college.
