Shanghai-Stuttgart Symposium on Automotive and Powertrain Technology 2025 (SSS 2025) Successfully Held

From May 22nd to 23rd, 2025, Shanghai-Stuttgart Symposium on Automotive and Powertrain Technology 2025 was successfully held in Shanghai. The symposium was co - hosted by the School of Automotive Studies at Tongji University and the Institute of Automotive Engineering at the University of Stuttgart. It was jointly organized by the Shanghai Automotive Wind Tunnel Center at Tongji University, the Sino - German College at Tongji University, and the FKFS of Stuttgart. Gasgoo served as the co - organizer.

The symposium opened with welcome speeches by Ms. Cao Jing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Tongji University Committee; Prof. Peter Middendorf, Rector of the University of Stuttgart; Mr. Zheng Guanghong, Second - level Inspector and Director of the Social Development Division of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission; and Mr. Michael Kleiner, Assistant to the Minister of Economic Affairs, Labor and Tourism of Baden - Württemberg.

On May 22nd, the plenary session featured 9 keynote speeches and 1 panel discussion. In the morning, Prof. Andreas Wagner, Chair of Automotive Engineering at IFS, member of the Board of Management of FKFS delivered a speech on "Comfort Experience in Assisted Driving Vehicles". Prof. Cai Wei from Harbin University of Science and Technology elaborated on "Key Technologies and Product Innovation of Electric Vehicle Power Systems". Ms. Tina Zhou, CEO of Gasgoo, conducted an in - depth exploration of China’s automotive market value. Prof. André Casal Kulzer, Chair of Automotive Powertrain Systems at IFS, member of the Board of Management of FKFS, analyzed "Powertrain Solutions and the Role of Diversity". Mr. Zhang Guiqiang, Senior Director of the Range Extender System Department at Li Auto, introduced the route of additive programming technology of Li Auto.

In the afternoon, Prof. Xu Xiangyang from Beihang University delivered a report titled "Innovation and Practice of Dedicated Hybrid Transmission Configurations in China". Mr. Bi Lu, Senior Expert and Associate Vice President of NIO Electirc Drive & High Voltage System, introduced the development of NIO's 900V high voltage platform electric drive system. Prof. Martin Schuster, Senior Director Research & Engineering at SAIC Volkswagen, analyzed "How China sets Trends in Autonomous Driving". The panel discussion was chaired by Prof. Huang Yanjun from Tongji SAS. Participants included Prof. Han Zhiyu from Tongji SAS, Prof. Andreas Wagner from FKFS, Bi Lu (Assistant Vice President of NIO), Prof. André Casal Kulzer from FKFS, and Martin Schuster (Senior Director of Research and Engineering at SAIC Volkswagen). They engaged in the discussion on " How AI is Reshaping Automotive Industry-Opportunities and Challenges ".


On May 23rd, breakout sessions focused on six major themes—Numerical Analysis and Thermal Management, Aerodynamics and Aeroacoustics, Powertrain, Power Battery, Fuel Cells, and Power System Control—featuring 39 technical presentations. Under the organization of hosts, speakers and attendees engaged in systematic and in-depth discussions and exchanges.

At the end of the conference, Prof. Xiong Lu, Dean of the School of Automotive Studies at Tongji University, and Prof. Jochen Wiedemann from FKFS delivered closing remarks. They reviewed and summarized the symposium, expressing gratitude to all attendees and inviting them to continue following Shanghai-Stuttgart Symposium on Automotive and Powertrain Technology.
