On the afternoon of April 17, a wonderful exchange meeting between F1 engineers and Tongji students was jointly organized by Red Bull team of Austria and DIAN Racing team of Tongji University in the School of Automotive Studies.
Specially invited guests included Michael Manning, a senior control engineer with 20 years of F1 experience, and Hannah, who is responsible for Red Bull 's event execution.
Michael Manning's duties include the configuration and analysis of the control system of the F1 racing car, especially supervising all aspects of start-up performance. He has worked in the field of F1 for 20 years, and spent 14 years of professional career with Austrian Red Bull team in assisting the team in winning six world driver championships and five world team championships.
Michael Manning firstly introduced the F1 race, the duties of F1 engineers, as well as the history of the Austrian Red Bull team and expectations for the race on this weekend.
After that, Michael Manning shared his growth experience from a student to a multiple championships winning engineer, and then encouraged Tongji students to pursue their dreams bravely: ' If I made it from an engineering student in Ireland to being a multiple championship winning engineer, it is possible you can achieve your dream too! '
After the exchange meeting, DIAN Racing team invited Michael to the workshop to visit the DRe23 racing car. Michael sat in the racing car and made many valuable comments to the team. Communicating with F1 engineers face to face can not only enhance the professional knowledge of the members, but also motivate the team to work towards higher standards.
DIAN Racing team belongs to the Innovation Base of the School of Automobile Studies of Tongji University. Under the guidance of Xiong Lu and Zhang Zhiming, DIAN Racing team independently designs and manufactures an electric formula car every year and participates in the series of electric formula competitions for college students.
Zhang Yuyang and Liu Changjie, the key members of DIAN Racing team who joined in September 2021, recalled every detail of the participation experience in last year. A part of the car before the competition had a problem, and the members worked all the night to solve it. Zhang Yuyang believes that the team is like a home, in which the members regard each other as brothers and sisters, grow up and make progress together.
Today, the 2024 F1 Chinese Grand Prix is held in the Shanghai Circuit. Each car is a bright star, shining with speed and passion on the circuit. At the same time, the racing teams of Chinese students are also actively engaged in racing competition, pursuing their dreams with passion.
