SAS and CDHK visited key European partners in Mid-December: TU Graz, AVL, TU Berlin, TU Braunschweig, DAAD, TU Darmstadt. Consensus was reached on important international cooperation talent training projects. Strengthening the cooperation with Europe and Germany has always been an important strategy for our university to promote the construction of "double first-class" universities. Since 1978, our university has transformed into a multidisciplinary and international university, built a platform for exchanges between Europe and Germany, promoted students' participation in overseas exchange and study, and played an important role in cultivating leading and innovative talents with an international perspective.

SAS and CDHK are the first two schools of our university to visit Europe since the epidemic and it is an important measure to further promote high-level talent training and scientific research cooperation under the framework of Tongji University's "Cooperation with Germany 2.0 Strategy".

Visit TU Graz

In order to further promote the international joint scientific research and talent training, the delegation visited the Technical University of Graz (TU Graz) in Austria and met with Franz HAAS, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Economic Sciences, Sabine PREM, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office, and Mario Hirz, Deputy Head of the Department of Automotive Engineering. WU Xudong, Deputy Dean of SAS of Tongji University, introduced the latest progress of the international talent training and joint scientific research, and shared the important measures of SAS to promote international exchanges and cooperation after the epidemic. The two sides exchanged views on the existing Tongji-TU Graz double degree program, short-term exchange program, and the specific development of future summer school program, reached consensus, and focused on the future Sino-German joint training of doctoral students, which is of great significance to the construction of the Sino-German Doctoral School and the Sino-German Joint Research Center.

Visit partner universities in Germany

Subsequently, the delegation visited TU Berlin, TU Braunschweig and TU Darmstadt in Germany. SAS of Tongji University and TU Berlin expressed the cooperation intention. The delegation had in-depth discussions with TU Braunschweig and TU Darmstadt on the ways of cooperation in the post-epidemic period, and reached consensus. For the construction of the Sino-German Doctoral School and the Sino-German Joint Research Center of Tongji University, both sides believe that joint scientific research should be further deepened and implemented, and the stickiness of cooperation should be enhanced, so as to promote the joint training of talents at a higher level.

Visit AVL

As one of the three authoritative internal combustion engine research and development institutions in the world, AVL has always been closely associated with our university, and the founder of the company, Professor List, taught in Tongji from 1926 to 1932 and founded the internal combustion engine major. The two sides have carried out academic mutual visits, scientific research cooperation and joint talent training for a long time. AVL is a typical representative example of school-enterprise cooperation. The delegation visited AVL's headquarters and met with Maria KOLLMANN, Director of the Public-Private Office, Gernot LEITNER, Sales Director for China, Theodor SAMS, Head of Research and Technology Development, and Peter PRENNINGER, Corporate R&D Coordinator. AVL reviewed the historical relationship with Tongji, introduced the company's current industrial layout and future development plan. CAI Liming, Deputy Dean of CDHK, introduced the recent progress and future planning of Tongji University from the perspective of school-enterprise joint scientific research and school-enterprise talent joint training, and both sides expressed their strong willingness to maintain deeper and closer cooperation in the future, and were full of confidence in future cooperation.

Faced with the opportunities and challenges of international cooperation under the new situation, Cai Liming, Deputy Dean of CDHK, was invited to visit DAAD. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on the development model and work plan of CDHK, the Sino-German Joint Research Center (Tongji University) and the Sino-German Doctoral School. The two sides will always adhere to the tradition of multi-year cooperation, carry out cross-integration research around the two themes of intelligent technology and green development, combine international scientific research cooperation with talent training, create a new model of Sino-German higher education cooperation, and strive to form major scientific research achievements and cultivate world-class talents.

SAS and CDHK have always regarded international exchange as an important part of talent training. This visit has received great attention from partners, further consolidated our cooperative relationship, enhanced mutual trust, and laid the foundation for further consolidating and deepening our cooperation with Europe and Germany and strengthening the international talent training model in the post-epidemic era.
